All students in grades 4 - 8 are welcome to join band. Band is offered through the Hill-Murray Parish Schools Band Program, which services eighteen parish and charter schools. Lessons are held during the school day. Several concert and contest opportunities are included with lessons. Fourth and fifth graders will be bringing home a letter and returning band students will be bringing home a folder containing re-enrollment information. For new band students: you can sign up your child for a 20-minute instrument tryout. Try-outs will be held during the school day at SCCS. At the try-out, your child will have the opportunity to play each beginning instrument. You, your child, and the teacher will collectively decide which instrument is best for your child. Orchestra lessons for returning orchestra students will start on Wednesday, September 10. Rehearsals will remain on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8:15 am for Advanced Orchestra. Beginners from last year will be in Advanced Orchestra this year. Orchestra is open for any SCCS student in grade 3 and above. Mr. Woodhouse will be visiting 3rd and 4th grade music classes on Wednesday, September 10 to demonstrate the violin and talk about beginning Orchestra. Information will be coming home with the students. Mr. Woodhouse will also be having a parent and student meeting on Friday, September 12 at 8:45 am in the Band/Orchestra room for anyone interested in joining or learning more about Orchestra.
