Beginner Strings Orchestra: Open to students in grades 2-5. Students must have completed 4-6 lessons and exhibit skills, comprehension, and maturity expected for an ensemble experience. The ensemble meets 2x/week Thursdays 12:00-12:35 pm and Fridays 8:00 - 9:00 am. Beginner String Orchestra students learn the fundamentals of participating in a string orchestra and prepare music for two concerts during the school year. Students are expected to practice between rehearsals to prepare their string "team" for the performance. Cost for this ensemble experience is $200/semester. Advanced Strings Orchestra: Open to students who have completed at least two full years of lessons and a previous ensemble experience. Full ensemble meets 2x/week (Wednesdays before school and once on Mondays, 1:00-1:50 pm. Advanced Strings students continue to learn rehearsal etiquette as well as prepare a more demanding set of string orchestra literature for performances. Students perform two concerts during the school year. Students are expected to practice between rehearsals to prepare their string "team" for the performance. Chamber Ensemble: Audition-based ensemble, offered at no additional cost and open to advanced musicians participating in our advanced orchestra or concert band program. Students are required to have 2 years experience playing their instrument within their Band/Orchestra Rehearsals. Concert Band: Open to students in grades 4-8. Hill-Murray School provides instruction at SCCS during the school day on Thursdays. Students rehearse in Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Ensembles, and also receive small group lessons during the school day. The instructor will work with your child’s classroom teacher to avoid missing core classes. Cost is $287.50/semester (reduced rates available for multiple children). Registration is done through this link provided by Hill-Murray, and Second Semester payments are made automatically using the TADS system.
St. Michael’s Parish offers choir opportunity for children. Students have rehearsals on Wednesdays from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm and once a month the children will sing a Sunday mass at the Church of St. Michael or the Church of St. Mary with 1-2 special masses hosted outside of the parish.
