Today we finished discussing the Exodus parallels with the New Testament.  We will have a quiz late next week on Moses.  6X on Wednesday and 6Y on Thursday.

Monday we have the talent show which will take place during 6th grade religion.

Service Reflection due Friday April 29th

Today we are talking about the prefigurations of Jesus in the Exodus journey through the series Footprints of God.

Questions page 180-182 are due Friday.  

Today we discussed a little how SCCS lives out its mission statement as well as had "manners spotlight".  We reviewed some common courtesies like meeting new people, having a good conversation, and how to hold yourself to show confidence.  Hopefully you see the fruits of these discussions at home when you ask, "How was school today?".

The 6th grade is talking about Moses.  Questions on page 173 are due Tues (6X) /Wed (6Y).  We talked about his early life and will begin to talk about the plagues.

Page 177 questions due Wed (6X)/Thursday (6Y).

Service reflections were handed out.  They are due April 29th.

We have finished our chapter on Joseph and are moving onto Exodus and the story of Moses beginning Friday and going into next week.  Projects turned out really well. It is exciting to see them sharing them in class and I look forward to seeing 6X reading their books to 2nd grade.

Today in class we talked about the Solemnity of the Annunciation (today's feast) and the Feast of Divine Mercy which occurred yesterday.  We discussed how these two are so intertwined.  This coincidence of them being right next to each other only occurs when Easter falls on March 27th.  It happened 12 years ago and not again for at least 40 more years.  

Questions from pages 154-155 are due tomorrow (6X) and Wednesday (6Y); they will have had at least 10 minutes to begin working on them in class on Monday.

We are beginning to study Joseph the patriarch.  We will have covered textbook pages 145-155 by Friday.

Today the 6th grade had a quiz (6Y) due to silhouette stations tomorrow.

Yesterday we covered the reconciliation of Jacob and Esau as well as the deaths of Rachel and Isaac. Questions from 125-126 and 128-129 are due next class.  6X (Tuesday) and 6Y (Wednesday).  6Y will have a quiz on Jacob and His Family on Thursday and 6X will have a quiz on Friday.

Today we talked about Jacob and his leaving Laban, his name being changed, and his reconciliation with Esau.  Next week we will have a quiz on Friday, March 18th on Jacob and His Family

We are continuing with our study of Jacob and his adult life.  We are watching clips from In the Beginning: From Creation to the Commandments to see how they lived their lives at the time.

Today questions on page 111 were due. We are continuing to talk about Jacob and Esau and will have a quiz on this next Wednesday.

Today we had some reminders and announcements and then we covered Isaac and Rebekah.  Textbook questions from page 111 are due on Wednesday.

We are working on Isaac and Rebekah.  We will do a skit tomorrow in class about this. 

6th grade is wrapping up the Chromebook preparation unit.  We have looked at current technology use, how technology can help or hinder us, and now we are looking at how the Church suggests we use media.  There are seven keys that Church documents have asked us to consider as we approach using technology.  There was a handout given to the 6th graders that I asked them to share with you.  Here is that document and a PowerPoint to explain it more.

We have had parent sessions about Chromebook implementation in the past, but this year, we couldn't pin down a date, but please know I am happy to talk with you if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

Tuesday (6X) and today (6Y) we have begun to talk about philosophy statements and why we do what we do.   This philosophy discussion leads into SCCS' philosophy of technology statement that we will look at next week.  We want the students to be firmly grounded in the "why" of how to use Chromebooks and Technology before we give them the devices. 

Yesterday both classes had a discussion on technology and what they have seen it be able to achieve.

Chromebooks will be able to be used after students return contracts.  Contracts will be given on February 18th, so likely use of Chromebooks will be February 22nd.  More information for parents will be coming home soon.

We have Adoration tomorrow.

Tuesday/Wednesday we reviewed for the Abraham quiz by doing a typology activity and playing Jeopardy

Wednesday/Thursday we will have a quiz on Abraham- study pages 95, 96, 102, and the typology activities on Abraham/Isaac and Melchizedek

Friday the students had their project due- 6X presented their projects to the class; 6Y read their books to the Kindergarteners and First Graders.  

Homework is pages 95, 96 and 102 questions.  These are due Tuesday (6X) and Wednesday (6Y).  There will be a quiz on Wednesday (6X) and Thursday (6Y) over the orange section in their book on Abraham.

We are continuing our study of Abraham, specifically the promises that God made to him and his willingness to sacrifice even his son.  We will have a quiz on Abraham next Wednesday.

Friday for 6X their Old Testament project is due.  There is a rubric below.

6Y has written their book project in computer class.  They will get to read their books to Kindergarten and 1st grade on Friday afternoon.

Yesterday I was out of town for a funeral.  The students worked in small groups to create a PowerPoint of God's promises to Abraham.  Tuesday/Wednesday they will present and explain the promises.  Wednesday/Thursday we will discuss the sacrifice of Isaac.  Old Testament projects due Friday.

Today we spoke a little about the Epiphany and then began to talk a little about Abraham. 

Today 6X worked on their Old Testament project that is due soon after break. 

6Y worked on some fun holiday trivia for the day.  I won't see either class again formally until the new year, so have a Merry Christmas and blessed break.

Today, due to the weather, we caroled to Danny at school.  Danny came to school around 2:45 and we sang with him and enjoyed being with him for an hour. We will have a quiz on the Tower of Babel on Wednesday.

We spoke a little about the cardinal virtues and their role in our lives as human beings.

We talked about the upcoming Jubilee Year of Mercy that begins tomorrow and goes through November 20, 2016.

Service reflections were handed out today and are due 12/21.

We practiced caroling for Danny and 6X received their quizzes back and we reviewed the answers.

Today we reviewed a few things from the Noah section and began talking about the Tower of Babel.

We also began to practice for caroling next week. 

Today we took a quiz on Noah and the Ark.  Afterwards the class had some time to work on their Old Testament project or cards/notes for Danny.

Today we talked about Advent and made a game plan for the few weeks to help us allow Jesus to have more opportunity to break into our lives.  We watched a little of Bishop Cozzens talking about Advent, a video preview of the fun that could be had at the Lock-In, and talked about practical details about some communion changes at School Mass and an opportunity for all school confession on Friday.

We have a quiz on Noah on Wednesday.  We reviewed in 6Y for the quiz yesterday and will review for the quiz today in 6X.

This week we continued with Noah.  We will have a quiz on the purple section of the book, pages 57-65, on Wednesday.  Service reflections due Monday. Have a good Thanksgiving and a blessed beginning of Advent. 

Today we discussed the great flood.  We covered textbook pages 60-63. We also talked a little about the feast of St. Cecilia and Christ the King that overlap this year and happen on Sunday.

Today 6X watched a video called "For Love Alone" about women's religious life in honor of vocation awareness week.  After which we began the story of Cain and Abel.

Today was Miscellaneous Monday and we did a lot!

We discussed All Souls Day and purgatory & prayed for those who have died recently among our family and friends.

Neil Kirchoefer, the junior high faith formation director, came by to talk about upcoming Junior High Youth Ministry events.  

And we began to write a class prayer for Danny for a gift that is being prepared for him.  

Wednesday we will have a quiz over Adam and Eve (study pages 41-47). After the quiz we will work a little more on the prayer book page, watch a brief newly made video on women's religious life.

Tomorrow we will talk about God's plan to begin to remedy the damage due to the fall and why He would allow this to happen in the first place.  The questions on page 43-44 are due as well as the service project.

Today 6X discussed how the fourfold communion was broken after the fall.  There will be a quiz on the second creation story on Wednesday.

We had an anti-bullying presentation called "The Power of One" followed by a chance to Skype with Danny.

Today we discussed the first story of creation in the Bible.  We will continue discussing this first account this week.  Review questions on page 28&29 are due Wednesday (6X) or Thursday (6Y).  We will have a quiz on this next week. Wednesday there is a presentation, "The Power of One" at 2pm, so the quiz will be Monday for 6Y and Tuesday for 6X.  Please study the review questions on pages 

Over the course of the month we will be using a decade of the rosary as our class opening prayer.  Each student signed up to lead a certain decade.  The PowerPoint attached may be used for reference.  The assignment is a five point assignment and they need to have these three elements for full credit.

2) How does it apply to my life?
3) Lead a decade

Today in class we talked about the conversion of St. Matthew and reviewed for the quiz.  Textbook pages 1-14. The Review Questions are a good study guide.  Two PowerPoints are attached from class notes. 

Today in class 6Y watched a brief overview video about the Bible.  We answered review questions on page 4 of the textbook. And used the YouCat. We reviewed the service reflection requirements.  Homework is to finish review questions on page 4 in their notebook if they didn't finish in class.
