6th grade science students are busy designing what they determine to be the best blade for a wind turbine, perfecting their blade in order to harness the greatest amount of mechanical energy possible. Students researched blade design by isolating and manipulating variables and performing experiments. They will soon be testing their blade designs to see how much mechanical energy they can convert to electrical energy with the use of a generator. This has been a valuable experience in preparing these students to access Design & Modeling in 7th grade in 2014-2015. Additionally, St. Croix Catholic is excited to add a third course to its Project Lead The Way program next school year, Energy & the Environment for 6th grade.
